Associate Structural Engineer – Design Services

We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our Buildings team. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills who enjoys coordinating projects, reviewing engineering work, and working closely with clients.

Rather than carrying out day-to-day structural design, you will act as the technical link between our clients and our engineering teams. You will review and coordinate design work, provide technical guidance, resolve engineering issues, and ensure that projects are delivered to the required quality, programme, and client expectations.

The role covers a wide variety of building structures, with a primary focus on reinforced concrete and structural steel. Some experience with precast concrete structures and Scaffolding would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical interface between clients and our structural engineering teams.
  • Coordinate and review structural engineering work to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to design teams throughout project delivery.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, architects, and other project stakeholders to resolve technical queries and coordinate project requirements.
  • Review structural calculations, reports, drawings, and design documentation prepared by the engineering teams.
  • Identify technical risks and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Eurocodes, relevant UK Standards, client specifications, and agreed programmes.
  • Support project managers with technical input during project delivery.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and design processes.

Required Skills and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
  • Significant experience in the design and delivery of building structures.
  • Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures.
  • Experience reviewing and checking structural engineering work.
  • Excellent understanding of UK design standards and Eurocodes.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in dealing directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to manage technical coordination across multiple projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgement.
  • Familiarity with FEA software such as: Dlubal RFEM/RSTAB, SCIA Engineer, ETABS, or equivalent.

Desirable Skills (but not essential)

  • Experience with precast concrete structures.
  • Experience in temporary works and/or scaffold design.
